So my friends, I think that I better let you know what has been going on in my life.  I have learned a new skill…I found out that if I bang on the sliding screen door many times, with a few mumbled  magickal ‘meows’ too, the lock will pop off and I can use my claws to open the door and go out.  Now, you all know that I am allowed out when Mommy and Dad are out too and I have learned to stay in the yard.  But sometimes I want out when they won’t go with me so it was a good skill to learn.

On Friday I saw a neighborhood cat slink up to my catnip plantation for his daily nibble: usually I am content to watch him thru the window but that day I decided to put my new skill to use and confront him face to face.  I did.  He wasn’t as nice as I thought he should be, especially as I have shared my catnip with him all summer.  He scratched me!  I wasn’t afraid, I hissed and growled and chased him out of the yard then went back to the door where Mom had come to see what all the commotion was about.  She wanted to coddle me, and medicate my injury  but I wasn’t having any of that baby stuff.  I was the winner!  I was strong and had to be on guard in case that rotten catnip thief came back. I paced by the door, now with the glass closed to prevent more going out alone and swished my tail rapidly, back and forth.

It wasn’t for a couple of hours, until something Mom calls ‘adrenalin’ had run out, that I let her clean my head and then I cried.  It hurt, I was bleeding to death!  Mommy help me! She said it was a good thing I had my shots.  I said I don’t know why, shots didn’t help me fight the thief, it was my own bravery that won the day.

She cuddled me, until I fell asleep.

DuckyBlanca and PlumaBlanca.

Pluma says, “Are you a cat?”

Ducky says, “Are you a duck?”

Have you noticed that I haven’t been at work lately?  It is because I, PlumaBlanca, have a new duck sister, DuckyBlanca, and I have to snoopervise her.  At first Mom and Dad put her in MY CATNIP GARDEN!!!!!!!  And she started eating my catnip.  I was upset but Dad made Ducky a new pen and she likes it,  and swims in her pool, makes eggs for Mom’s breakfast, and eats her own foods, not my catnip. We are friends now.

Pluma keeping a watch on his catnip…

Here is Pluma watching his catnip grow and making sure that mommy doesn’t cut too much of it.

He has another large patch on the other side of the garden so while he patrols this one, I can harvest the other side.  As I cut every week during growing season the plants stay manageable and don’t grow out of their space, and it is much easier to strip leaves off smaller stems.  Hey, did you know that catnip leaves make excellent bookmarks in magick books?

Update on Mom’s eye and my catnip plantation.

Hi Effurryone,

Hope you are all doin fine, stayin cool and havin fun this summer,

Mom’s eye is healing so well that the human vet doc says she can have the other eye done on Monday, that way they can both heal together. This eye will be much simpler, no pesky cysts, just a cat-ar-act: she is not really lookin forward to this but feels it is the best thing to get it all done now and be done with it.  So we are back to eye drops, eye patches and a cranky Mom.  Dad, who just had 2 weeks vacation, (he calls it ‘work’ at home) now needs 3 more days off to take Mom to the eye vet and put eye drops every 2 hours, cook dinners and watch me play in the garden.  His boss isn’t seeing it his way so may have to use the Family Leave Act, but that is mucho paperwork so he is cussing and damning that is being debated and discussed, and plans made.  Mom says we will work thru Saturday, then close til Thursday so ifen you need somethink come on in.

Several volunteer catnip plants have grown up between the patio bricks. As we need all the nip that will grow Mom lets them live there and when I am able to go outside I personally test each plant for nippy strength. Counting volunteers and planted catnips I have 11 large plants. That means 11 leaves to test everyday, although some plants need 2 or 3 leaves eaten to assure quality testing.

Because I have had to nurse my cranky Mom  been delighted to assist in helping with Moms recovery, there were several days that I NEEDED to visit my catnip plantation, if you know what I mean.  And we have had company, Dad calls them relatives, for the last 2 weeks, so our house has been busy.  We think we will be back to normal soon. The company leaves tomorrow; I will be able to come out from under the bed. Mom has her 2nd eye fixed on Monday and we should all be back at work on Thursday July 19th: that is Ladies Meeting Night, Miss Ann, who always brings me delicious treats will be teaching that nite.

Mom says we have been given some awards and as soon as her eyes are good enough to figure out what to do with then she will do that.  I can’t wait!! I love getting things, although I don’t know what ‘awards’ are, maybe like treats or somethink.

Purrs, Pluma.
